Lure Artisan - Richard M. Whitehead
We are pleased to announce that Richard and FFTMC have teamed up to create an extraordinary collection of one-of-a-kind Whitehead lures to be sold under the Barracuda® brand name. This offering is the first of many planned for FFTMC. Many Whitehead pieces are derived from some of his most well recognized and collected works. We are pleased to be able to offer this unique collection along with certificates of authenticity personally signed by this leading outdoor artist.
Because these are original works of art made especially for Barracuda, once sold, they will no longer be available (except if and when they may be found on the secondary market, most likely at much higher prices!).

Richard is an award-winning self-taught carver and painter of folk art fishing lures, decoys and bobbers. A draftsman by trade, his carving career started in 1999 with a search for Indian artifacts in East Texas. He found an old pine-knot floating in water and decided to carve a palliated woodpecker out of it. It quickly sold and Whitehead's hobby blossomed into a true calling.
This carver counts Native American culture and artifacts among his primary influences, particularly those expressing appreciation and respect for nature. Over his art career, Richard's work has evolved from natural replicas of birds, animals and fowl to his famously stylized folk art fishing lures. Unlike mass manufactured high gloss wooden lures produced during the heyday of lure making in the 1930’s, Whitehead's lure carvings are one of a kind whimsical forms drawn from nature and embellished with contemporary hand painted folk designs. Richard’s textured wood carvings sport bold shapes, colors, stripes and custom hardware.
